In order for us to properly evaluate your case, you will initially require a consultation and diagnostic appointment in order to best determine the treatment path necessary for your case. This includes determining whether or not your case will require extractions, gathering the appropriate information via X-rays, Panoramic scans and impressions and any other photos required.

Directly after this consultation, you will be scheduled for implant surgery in which the new replacement teeth are fitted and adjusted all in one appointment, including any necessary extractions.

  • Four titanium implants are placed in the jaw in such a way that the bone will envelop and secure them into place.
  • The implants that are placed in the back part of the jaw are angulated to achieve maximum advantage to the existing bone structure.

At Linder Road Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we give you the option of choosing a durable composite resin filling that more closely matches the color of your teeth or a silver amalgam filling to seal a cavity.

What is a Filling?

A filling is a way to restore a tooth damaged by decay back to its normal function and shape. When we give you a filling, we first remove the decayed tooth material, clean the affected area, and then fill the cleaned out cavity with a filling material.

By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling also helps prevent further decay. Materials used for fillings include porcelain, a composite resin (tooth-colored fillings), and an amalgam (a metal alloy such as silver).

Filling Procedure

Before filling the cavity, we will first remove the decay and clean the affected area. The cleaned-out cavity will then be filled with one of the below mentioned materials.

Which Type of Filling is Best?

No one type of filling is best for everyone. What’s right for you will be determined by the extent of the repair, whether you have allergies to certain materials, where in your mouth the filling is needed, and the cost. Considerations for different materials include:

  • Amalgam (silver) fillings are resistant to wear and relatively inexpensive. However, due to their dark color, they are more noticeable than porcelain or composite restorations and are not usually used in very visible areas, such as front teeth.
  • Composite (plastic) resins are matched to be the same color as your teeth and therefore used where a natural appearance is desired. The ingredients are mixed and placed directly into the cavity, where they harden. Composites may not be the ideal material for large fillings as they may chip or wear over time. They can also become stained from coffee, tea or tobacco, and do not last as long as other types of fillings generally from three to 10 years.
  • Porcelain fillings are called inlays or onlays and are produced to order in a lab and then bonded to the tooth. They can be matched to the color of the tooth and resist staining. A porcelain restoration generally covers most of the tooth.

If decay or a fracture has damaged a large portion of the tooth, a crown, or cap, may be recommended. The Implant Dentistry Procedure

The procedure to place dental implants is straightforward and can be completed in three visits to our practice after an initial consultation.

  • Implant Post Placement (First Visit): During the first visit, the titanium implant post, which resembles a small screw, will be placed into the jawbone through an oral surgery procedure. The jawbone is allowed to heal for several months to ensure that is fully fused with the post before the abutment is attached.
  • Abutment Attachment (Second Visit): During the second visit, an abutment will be attached to the post so that the restoration can be placed on it in the next visit. The area is allowed to heal for a few weeks before the restoration is attached.
  • Restoration Attachment (Third Visit): During the third and final visit, the restoration – a single dental crown, dental bridge, or denture – will be attached to the exposed portion of the abutment.

Composite Fillings

When plaque and bacteria erode tooth enamel, they can form cavities and areas of decay in the tooth structure. Left unchecked, this can destroy the sensitive nerves and root structure of teeth. Our composite resin fillings are placed in order to stop cavities and restore the bite surface. During the procedure, the decay and only a minimal amount of the original tooth structure will be removed. Composite resin fillings appear natural and are virtually undetectable in your smile. Porcelain Crowns

Unlike metal-based crowns of the past, our all-ceramic crowns are crafted using layers of porcelain that not only protect the remaining tooth structure, but look more realistic than past restorations. In much the same way that porcelain dental veneers are crafted, the porcelain is layered to create the most realistic ceramic restoration. Because of this careful process, light is able to move through the semi-translucent material in much the same way as natural teeth.
